Getting to Aberystwyth

Aberystwyth largely regarded as the capital of Mid Wales. Despite its remote location it does have good transport links with both North and South Wales and the Birmingham and the West Midlands.

By Train

Aberystwyth is connected to the West Midlands by rail. Trains for leave from Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street and take between 2-3hrs. Please view the Train  timetable below.

By Bus

Aberystwyth is connected to North and South Wales by Bus. The X40 runs every hour from Carmarthen Bus station to Aberystwyth. The X40 also runs from Cardiff (and Swansea) twice daily except on Sundays.

By Car

Aberystwyth is connected to North and South Wales and the West Midlands and South East Wales by Road.

 

From West Midlands

1.       From Shrewsbury take the A49 South to Wistanstow.

2.       At Wistanstow take the A489 to Caersws which passes through Newtown.

3.       At Caersws take the A70 South to Llangurig.

4.       Join the A44 at Llangurig to Aberystwyth.

 

From South Wales (Route 1)

1.       Take the M4 motorway to Pont Abraham (Junction 49).

2.       From Pont Abraham take the A48 to Carmarthen.

3.       At Carmarthen get on the A485 heading north to Lampeter (from Carmarthen it should take an hour to react Lampeter) (passing through Peniel, Rhydargaeau, Pontarsias, Alltwalis, Gwyddgrug, New Inn, Llanllwni, Llanybydder, Pencarreg and Cwnann).

4.       At Lampeter join the A482 heading North west to Aberaeron (passing through Temple Bar, Felinfach, Ystrad Aeron and Ciliau Aeron).

5.       At Aberaeron join the A487 heading to Aberystwyth (passing through Aberath, Llannon, Llansanffriad, Llanrhystud, Blaenplwyf, Chancery, Llanfarian and Rhydyfelin (from Aberaeron it should take 30mins to react Aberystwyth once you have arrived in Aberystwyth give me a call on.

 

From South Wales (Route 2)

1.       Take M4 motorway to Junction 24 (Just outside Newport).

2.       From there take the A449 to Raglan.

3.       At Raglan join the A40 heading West. Passing through Abergavenny you react Crickhowell.

4.       At Crickhowell join the A470 heading North passing through Builth Wells you react Rhayader.

5.       At Rhayader join the A44 to Aberystwyth passing through reacting Llangurig and Ponterwyd.
